I first met Ellen when I was a nursing assistant in the ICU at Huntington Hospital. I learned so much from Ellen while I was a nursing student and later when I was a nurse on the same unit. She was an outstanding nurse and her patients were lucky to have her care for them. I enjoyed her sense of humor and her ability to navigate life's ups and downs. We all heard stories of the family and she was thrilled to become a grandmother. I have thought of Ellen often with fondness. May her memory continue to be a blessing as she was in life. Sincerely, Cathy Crandall, RN

Ellen was an inspiration to all who knew her! She was independent, smart and above all a free spirit! She cherished her family and proudly would give us updates on how all were doing! We always looked forward to the “DeTour Wings Party”, a celebration at the end of summer, proudly donning custom t shirts. Ellen will truly be missed by all those whose lives she touched! We are so sorry to hear about Ellen's passing. I have such wonderful memories of Ellen. She was a fun loving, kind person, great Mother and friend to many.
The day our moving van arrived on Midland Street she sent down a very appreciated pitcher of lemonade, followed by Stephanie and then Walter. We were great friends ever since. I'll always remember the evening Ellen and Walter invited us to their Club for dinner. Stephanie was babysitting for us and it was a real treat to get out of the house. Ellen received a call during dinner and said she had to leave. We stayed on with Walter and continued to enjoy ourselves. When we got home we learned that our daughter was ill and Ellen had gone to the rescue. If that isn't a friend I don't know what is. And then there were the famous "Hot Wings" Parties and Eagle Dock. We had so many fun times.
She was simply the best and will always be missed.
Sending our love to all of you.

I first met Mrs. Detour back in 2015. I had the privilege of staying in her beautiful Cold Spring Harbor home with my mom, Jane. She was an absolute delight and extremely welcoming. I loved her sense of humor and how she would pull Kitty’s tail at night when she couldn’t sleep! Mrs. DeTour was such an impressive woman and it was truly an honor to spend time with her and get to know her.
All my love,
Angie Barrett
