Dearest Family of Dr. Meagher,
Today I found out that Dr. Meagher had passed away. I am deeply saddened by this news. He was very special to me since I met him as a teenager, And I am now sixty five years old. He delivered my four daughters and one grandson safely into this world. What more could I ask for from a Dr.

There are not many words to describe the type of man my grandfather was, however the heart warming messages left on here paint a great picture. Although he his gone physically, his love and compassion for his family, friends, and patients will live on forever. Thank you for the endless memories and terrible jokes. You have taught me many valuable things in life, one of them being how to make your classic John Beggs. Because of you I knew how to bar tend before I could even walk. I'll love you forever Da, rest easy.

I was one of his beloved granddaughters. I miss him so very much, but i know that he will always be with me in my heart. I never thought I would have to experience this. I sometimes talk to him, I know that he will always love all of his family and everyone he ever knew. the last thing he said to me, was that it was impossible for anyone to love me more than he did. One of the last things that he touched was my beloved toy, RooRoo.

I just learned today, of the passing of Dr. Meagher. I am devestated of the news. I have been going to Dr. Meagher for over 34 years. He delivered my 2 children. He was always a kind, caring and a complete gentlemen. He will truly be missed. I loved talking to him about his beautiful family and how he loved to go on cruises with his wife. He truly loved his family. He always remembered everything. He was an amazing man and doctor. It's going to be hard to find anyone like him.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in Thessalonians 4:14 can bring you comfort. Know that there is a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be reassuring.
He will be truly missed!

My mother in law and I just read on the computer about Dr. Meagher's passing. I feel such a heavy heart and such a loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family members. Dr. Meagher was one of a kind - He was such a gentleman and a fantastic Dr. who actually really cared about his patients. He would take the time before going into the office to sit down and talk to us and ask how we were doing and then after the exam would sit down with us again just to catch up. We used to tell him he was not allowed to retire that we would never ever find another doctor as wonderful as him. I want to thank you Dr. Meagher for being there for me during a really difficult time in my life when i was going through cancer and reassuring me all would be good and for always being the first doctor to call me with all test results and not making me wait, like some other doctors did. We will miss you always - much love.

*rt is with great sorrow for the family and friends that I leave this message. I have been a patient of Dr Meagher's for 30 yrs. He always was and always be the best doctor I have had the privilege to know and to be his patient. His knowledge, patience, kindness, compassion, humor and personal touch is unlike any other doctor. Who likes going to the gyno? His patients did. He made me feel like he took care of me like I was his family member. I called to make an appt on 10/3 and learned he was forced to retire due to his illness. The sadness was more than I would have expected. I never took him for granted. The last visit with him I did get to tell him how much i appreciated having one of the best doctors in the world. I prayed for him in church. I told Jeanette we all prayed for his recovery and I would certainly pick up my file at the new doctor and come right back. The world will be a bit sadder without such a warm caring human being. They don't make them like him anymore. I was blessed to have him as my doctor. God is blessed to have him with him. I am glad that Dr Meaher got to do what he loved doing for as long as he did. I know he always said he felt very fortunate for that. God bless his family

Though it has been weeks since I learned of Dr. Meagher's passing, I remain amazed at the sense of loss that still reverberates among his patients, his colleagues, his friends, and quite simply, all you had the privilege and pleasure of having this brilliant, kind and compassionate man in their lives. He has delivered 2 (and would have been three had he not stop delivering) generations of my family, and though I knew he was "one in a million" and that I would miss him upon his retirement, I was still unprepared for the level of devastation felt when I learned of his death.
For the all the facebook posts, tributes and texts that relay a tale of his "saving a life", or "going the extra mile", or even just sharing how he was always just "there" for someone at a time when it was most needed, there are a a dozen more that continue with more of the same. His dedication, his diagnostic brilliance, his many random (and until now, unknown) acts of kindness, his sharp wit and that warm, genuine smile (and those blue eyes!) will be remembered and cherished by the hearts of many. A toast (John Beggs, of course) to a life well lived and a man well loved. You and yours will forever be remembered in my prayers.

I just found out about the passing of Dr. Meagher. I am soooo deeply saddened to hear about his passing. He was a wonderful doctor of whom I would consider a friend. I stopped going to see him a few years ago, but thought of him often. He was my doctor for over 20 years and he delivered my daughter 14 years ago. To be quite honest, I don’t like going to doctors, however, I actually enjoyed going to see Dr. Meagher. He always talked to me, listened to my crazy questions, and made me feel better when I was feeling scared. There aren’t too many doctors out there like Dr. Meagher. He worked for so many years because he genuinely enjoyed his job and enjoyed helping others. He truly cared about his patients and that’s what made him so special. I will miss you Dr. Meagher. I wish I was able to thank you for all that you have done and to say goodbye.....

I am so sorry for your loss of such a beloved man...he was a true 'old fashioned' gentleman. He delivered all 3 of my children between 1989 and 1996...in later years he always asked about the kids, it was never 'how are the kids'? He'd shuffle his paperwork around and ask about each one by name! Then onetime I mentioned that my grandmother was a patient of his Dad, then got talking further, he knew a Dr. from Greenpoint (Dr. O'Connell) who were neighbors of my mother and he knew the daughters Carol and Missy...God bless your family as you fondly remember a great man...

His talent helped save my daughter during delivery and she grew up to know and love him. We are eternally thankful for him. His kindness and treatment of patients always made you feel like you were part of his family. I loved watching him light up when he spoke of your family and what the grandkids were getting up to. When we went to Ireland, there was always the stop for goodies for Dr. Meagher biscuits and chocolates. I am so blessed to have had him in my life and for treating my mother, myself, my sisters and my daughter with the utmost professionalism and kindness. I will miss bringing him treats to have with his tea and our chats during my appointment. As he told his patients, he was absolutely perfect! May he rest gently in eternal peace. I first Dr. Meagher when I was 29 years old and had just moved from Brooklyn New York. i had a terrible experience with the doctor who delivered my son and was very leery about finding a new doctor. After my first visit i was hooked. Dr. Meagher delivered my daughter over 40 years ago and I was his first patient that had a blood clot while pregnant. I was in the hospital for 10 days with him visiting me every day in his greens after almost every delivery. I was bedridden and depressed until he walked into my room. He would spend his time with me telling me stories about his family and playing cards. He delivered all 3 of my grandchildren with c sections the last one 8 years ago. To say he will be missed is an understatement. Even after i moved to Florida I would go with my daughter to her appointments for a chance to see him again. He always had a kind word and never forgot who I was. I Love you Dr. Meagher and you will never be forgotten.

I met Dr Meagher when his son Ned was my roommate at Columbia. We went out to Long Island and stayed at his family's home. I had never seen such a beautiful home, much less stayed in one. We went to the golf club and Dr Meager insisted on paying for everything. Then when we left to go back to school he gave Ned money and insisted I take some too. I had never met anyone so generous. I spent many weekends at their home including a Thanksgiving and was always treated like I was royalty not a dirt poor Bostonian. I hope I can be 1/2 the man and father Dr Meagher was. I know I'll never be as witty :-)

Dr. Meagher was my doctor for over 45 years. Even after moving out to eastern Long Island, I would take the trek into East Northport or Greenlawn to see him because he was such a wonderful doctor and certainly worth the extra driving time! He was so kind and understanding and always went the extra mile for his patients! He treated the whole person...not just the symptoms! He was never an alarmist and always used his sense of humor to relax his patients. I always said he is going to work till he dies because he loved what he did so much. I wasn't surprised when I heard he passed about a month after retirement. He was a true Irishman! As the song goes, "He lived till he died!"

Dear Dr. Meagher. I first came to him as a quiet 19 year old who was newly engaged and needed a doctor. He immediately set me at ease and treated me with kindness and respect. He cared for me during the early years of marriage, infertility, celebrated with me as I became pregnant twice, struggled with me through additional infertility, celebrated again at another new life and then laughed with me as my last baby snuck in without any fertility treatments! I still remember calling him and telling him I'm pregnant and him laughing and saying, "Get in here Annie! Let's see how far along you are!" and the joy of him saying that I was 10 weeks! I also remember the absolute sweetness of him as I lost two babies and even his offer to come and pick me up to bring me to the hospital if I needed him to because my husband was out of town as I began to miscarry. He was that kind of a doctor. The love and care he had for his patients was beyond what I've seen from most doctors. He was more like a father than a doctor in his care. Of course finding early on that I went to St. Patrick's with Ellen helped that! I loved watching his family grow as my own family grew and seeing the joy on his face as he shared about his kids and grand kids.
I know this week, Dr. Meagher passed from this earthly home and as he went to his heavenly home, God's words were, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Thank you, Dr. Meagher for your love, your compassion, your humor and your commitment to your patients. You left a very big mark on this world and all of us who knew you will never forget you.

I’m sure St. Peter had a glass of John Begg waiting for him at the pearly gates! Our love and prayers to the entire Meagher family.
