Obituary of John Charles Gillon

John Charles Gillon (Jack), 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away September 9th, 2016, of pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on January 2nd, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, 1 of 4 children of Cornelius and Dorothy (Cavanagh) Gillon. He attended St. Jerome’s School in Flatbush, Brooklyn, Immaculata High School in New York City, and St. Francis College in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Gillon served in the U.S. Army in counterintelligence at Fort Holabird in Baltimore, Maryland. And he was associated with Metropolitan Insurance Company for 37 years, where he retired as the regional sales manager of the New York metropolitan area. He was a longtime, active member of St. Patrick’s parish in Huntington, the Beachcroft Association, and the Head of the Bay Club, where he was an avid tennis player.
Mr. Gillon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanne (McGuiggin), and 3 sons, John Jr. of Huntington, Edward and his wife Vanessa of Silver Spring, MD, and Robert and his wife Jill of Commack, NY.
He was the cherished Da of 5 grandchildren, Ryan, Rebecca and Shane of Commack and Mary and Lane of Silver Spring, MD. He is survived by his sister, Eileen, of Pasadena, California. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Cornelius and Gerard.
Visiting hours will be held at M.A. Connell Funeral Home in Huntington on Monday, September 12th, from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 13th at 9:45am at St. Patrick’s Church in Huntington, followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
