Obituary of Irene C. Hunter
Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irene was a dedicated teacher at St. Francis Xavier School in Brooklyn for many years, where she touched the lives of countless students with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to education. Known for her selflessness, Irene’s greatest joy came from caring for others and making them feel truly valued. While Irene was a beloved aunt to her own family, she was affectionately known as Aunt Irene to countless others and had a unique way of treating everyone she encountered like they were a part of her family too.
She treasured simple pleasures like ice cream dates, sunny days on the beach, and lively family dinners that brought everyone together. A devout member of her church, Irene lived a life of faith and compassion, always guided by her big heart and generosity.
Beloved aunt of Kathleen Zito (Vincent), the late Thomas Essex (Regina), and Michael Essex. Loving great-aunt of Krysten Schneider (Scott), Nicole Lennon (Tom), Samantha Zito, Victoria Zito-Graham (Will), Alexandra Zito, Caroline Essex, and Thomas Essex. Cherished great-great-aunt of Ella, Kailyn, and Adrienne. Dear sister of the late Mary Schiedenhelm and the late John Hunter. Caring sister-in-law of Charlie Essex. Irene’s legacy of love, devotion, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
