Obituary of Margaret Mary Browne Hughes

Margaret Mary Browne Hughes peacefully passed away on April 25, 2024 after 85 years full of life, laughter and love. The sister of Michael Gavin and Frances Browne, she is survived by her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of 61 years, George Hughes. A loving mother to Mary Frances, Michael (Dorothy Hughes) and Matthew (Victoria Hughes), she raised her children in Miller Place and moved to Huntington to become a full-time, dedicated grandmother to Meghan, Mary Katherine, Brendan, Caroline, Rory, Maggie and Eamon. After retiring from a long career at Bell Telephone Company, she spent her twilight years knitting scarves for family, sending postcards to friends and spending time in her beloved Marco Island, Florida. 

Margaret was a faithful Irish Catholic who reminded us often how loved, lucky and blessed we all truly are.  

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 30th at 1:00 PM at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs followed by a reception at Meehans in Huntington, New York.
