Obituary of Alfred George Williams
Please share a memory of Alfred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alfred George Williams of Centerport, New York, concluded the final chapter of his incredible story on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the age of 66. True to form, he timed the ending impeccably as the moon eclipsed the sun. Al is remembered not only for his grandiose stories and endearing humor, but for his courageous spirit. Al and his identical twin brother, Lee Alex Williams, were born June 4, 1957 in Commack, New York. After losing Lee at age 21, Al lived every day with enough heroism, adventure, and service to fill both lifetimes. Al served his country in the United States Air Force where he was a natural choice for the USAF Security Police, known as “the friendliest people on the base.” Al continued his service in law enforcement with the New York Police Department, where he earned the honor of wearing the distinguished leather, boots, hat, and britches of the elite Highway Patrol, and upholding that respected tradition on his NYPD motorcycle. He pursued his career with as much determination as his other high speed pursuits, including sailing ocean regattas, skiing from helicopters, and off-roading through the woods. With no less resolve, Al raced to the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001, to rescue lives in peril and contribute his tireless efforts in the months that followed. Al dedicated time after retirement to the Fealgood Foundation, appearing before Congress as part of the successful campaign to extend the Victims’ Compensation Fund for 9/11 first responders and survivors. Al’s proudest accomplishment by far was his family, who were beyond privileged to call him “Alfie,” their father, husband, brother, uncle and granddad. His love was relentless and he lived a hell of a life. Alfie is joyfully reunited now with his twin brother, Lee, his eldest brother Robert E. Williams, his mother, Ann Williams, his father, Robert J. Williams, and his faithful pug Rosie. His life and legacy are celebrated by his wife, Pamela Lawn-Williams; children, Darren, Danielle, Emily (David Desautels), and Lee; sister, Linda Carbone; brother, Christopher (Maria Williams); grandchildren Preston, Gavin, Evan, Alexis, Lucas, and Tristan; nieces and nephews, Hayley, Dawn, Robert, Jeremy, Grace, Christopher, Peter, and Paul; and many dear friends. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a service on April 12, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., both at M.A. Connell in Huntington Station, followed by an Interment Ceremony at Long Island National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Any donations in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
