Obituary of William F. Buysse

William F. Buysse, age 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 16^th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Astoria, NY, Bill was the beloved son of William F. Buysse, Sr and Lillian (Burns) Buysse and the brother of Marilyn (Buysse) Wendorff.  Bill graduated from Fordham University with a degree in History and Philosophy.  He proudly served in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank Lieutenant Colonel.  He was an avid swimmer his entire life and worked many summers as a lifeguard in his youth. 

In 1958, Bill married the one person who truly made his life come to life, Anna May (Hanlon) Buysse.  Bill and Anna May recently celebrated their 66^th Wedding Anniversary, marking a lifetime of love, faith, and family values.  Bill was the father of William P. Buysse, Karen (Buysse) Barry (David), and Neil J Buysse (Denise).    He was the grandfather of Connor and Kasey Barry, and Nicholas and Daniel Buysse.

Bill’s 15 minutes of fame included a guest appearance on the David Letterman Show where he met Dave Matthews in the greenroom.   We’re still not sure if he knew who Dave Matthews was.  Bill had an amazing sense of humor.  He loved to laugh and had the type of laugh that made others laugh.  Ultimately, what more can you ask for, a life filled with love, faith, family, friends, and laughter.  Bill had a full and well-lived life.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave, Huntington Station, NY 11746 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bill’s life at a Mass at Saint Patrick’s Church on Friday, March 22, 2024, 400 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743 at 9:45 AM.
