My deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Butts. I went to Harborfields high school and spent a lot of time in the student union with him during my off class time. He was always full of fun and laughter. He was a huge role model and mentor to every student that came into the student union, whether it was to play fooseball or just sit and talk. He will be greatly missed by the entire student body both past and present and to all who had the pleasure of spending time with him.
Sincerely,
Tracey Rhatigan-Sawtelle

Mr.Butts and his family helped me and so many other people through both trying and happy times in our lives. Think about the life lessons he taught all the time. He will live on in our hearts for ever.

I owe Mr Butts so much… he was an effortless mentor. He treated all of us kids like young adults. I spent many lunch hours in his office planning for the interact club.
Thanks for everything you gave us kids.

I first met Emory Butts my first year at Harborfields HS in 1971. He had been employed to be trouble shooter in 1969 or 1979 to help remedy the institutional racism and conflicts in the school district. He was hired by forward thinking members of the administration and board of education. Emory and I immediately bonded around equity, cigarettes, and fishing. We soon discovered that his son Kwame and my son Scot were born on the same day at Huntin ton Hospital. We fished together and joined Long Island Bassmasters where a Black man and Jewish man helped to break down prejudices, make great friends and win some tournaments. We share family and friendships. Our friendship is enduring, and I will miss him. Robin Calitri, 11/1/2023
