Obituary of Robert McGarry

Robert "Bob" McGarry passed away peacefully in Wilmington, NC on August 31, 2023 at the age of 90. He was born in Manhattan to Anna McGarry and raised in Brooklyn by Dan and Barbara Kane.

While working at Paine-Webber, he met the love of his life, Theresa “Audrey” Villeroel, to whom he was married for 61 years.  Bob began working at Citibank and attended St. John’s University’s College of Business at night.  He eventually retired from Citibank as a VP after 35 years of service. 

He was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved children and dogs. In addition to being a devoted family man, he was active in his parish and an avid NY Yankees, NY Giants, NY Rangers, SJU basketball and Notre Dame football fan.

He is survived by his children, Daniel (Patricia) and Barbara; grandchildren Danielle (Steve) McGarry-Whitthoft, Doug (Christina) McGarry, Nick Bonelli and Christina Bonelli. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa (Audrey) McGarry, as well as his sister, Helen, and brother, Gus. 

Visitation is scheduled September, 6^th at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, Huntington, LI.  Burial Mass is scheduled for September 7^th at 9:30am St. Elizabeth’s RC in Huntington. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Liberty Hospice and Bradley Creek of Wilmington, NC, for their devoted care.
