It’s no surprise that the words “Mr. Burr” forever live in our CMS yearbooks on the line titled “Favorite teacher: ”. And it’s therefore no surprise that we are devastated by the loss of someone who meant the world to us.
Select band with YOU was the highlight of every week. Coming to see YOU at lunch was the highlight of every day. YOUR jokes and the Rangers chats were the highlight of every music lesson. The one constant across all that was the best of middle school: YOU.
You made us realize that musical ambition runs strongest when you are having fun and finding joy in the music. Little did you know that some of the greatest joy we ever got from music existed precisely because we got to be with you.
Like Gravy and Richter, you’ll forever hang in our rafters of the greatest teachers of all time. To a hall of fame teacher, we love you.

Mark and I were friends in high school band in the 70's. He had a great sense of humor and great musical talent. I will miss him.
My favorite memory was when I was coming close to his home. The car was full of friends goofing off.
Mark said Great, we are coming up to my house and you guys are playing reindeer games.
To my favorite reindeer
Good bye

This is what Mr. Burr wrote in my yearbook from 1993, the year I was in 8th grade band. He was one of my favorite teachers ever- I will always remember how much fun we had in his class. I will never forget what he did at the concert that year-in the middle of the performance, on stage, he actually kicked his leg up in the air to cue in the trombones! That was him- funny, charismatic, and definitely creative! I laugh at that memory. I think he is one of the reasons I became a teacher. It’s definitely the mark of a great educator to leave such a lasting impact on the lives of his students. Mr. Burr was one of the greats, and I was so fortunate to have known him. I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Burr, who was my clarinet tutor for almost 10 years! He was patient, encouraging, and really helped me in so many ways! Because of his expertise and encouragement, I stuck with the clarinet and had so many wonderful experiences through band. RIP Mr. Burr!

I was a student of Mr.Burr around 10 years ago, and although I don’t remember many of my teachers from that year I do remember him for his cheerful and kind personality, and his always encouraging remarks and making many students (including myself) truly love band and being in his classroom. I am truly sad to hear of his passing and my thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I was a student of Mr. Burr's back in the 2016-17 school year. He was my teacher right after the roughest year of my life, and if not for his inspiring words and unwavering faith in me, I would have quit music for good. He is the reason I haven't given up on one of my life's biggest passions.
I will forever be grateful for the impact he has had on my life. Rest in peace, Mr. Burr. You will be missed by us all, and forever loved and remembered.

Mark was a blessing to anyone who met him. Weather you knew him for a few minutes or his whole life, he always made you feel welcome. A truly genuine nice guy, Mark loved his family, students and community fiercely. He will be missed terribly. My heart breaks for his family. Sending prayers that the fond and funny memories we all shared with him can bring some comfort at this extremely difficult time. Love you all.

I’ve known Mark since High School in Cinnaminson. At the time we didn’t know he would become a music teacher. But even then he taught me some lessons. The most memorable was how he demonstrated the ability to find the good in everyone he knew. I credit much of my success and joy in life to him, because it was his move to Texas that led to me to doing the same. Without that I wouldn’t have my family, my career and all the great experiences I’ve had over the past 43 years. Thank you, Mark.
We shared lots of humor over the years with what came to known as “Dad Jokes”. The more the punchline made you groan, the better. For example, “If people only use 10% of their brains, what do they do with the other half”? I’ll be thinking of Mark whenever I hear a joke that I wish I could still share with him. You’ll be missed but not forgotten.
