I met Joan many years ago when my son, Nick, and Joan’s son, Chris, attended St. Patrick’s school together. Already familiar with the school because of her older son, Robbie, Joan was so welcoming and helpful to me in being a new parent there. Fifteen years later, when I made the decision to return to teaching, Joan again extended a helping hand by arranging for me to observe English classes at Huntington High School. I found out Joan was sick through my daughter-in-law, Heidi, who is a Nurse Practitioner at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. Heidi marveled at Joan’s upbeat personality and optimism during her battle. As young mothers, Joan and I shared many good times, and I will always remember her as an intelligent,
determined, and fun-loving woman. Nick, Heidi, and I are so very saddened to learn of Joan’s passing; our hearts go out to Chris, Robbie, and the rest of the family. May all your beautiful memories of Joan comfort you during this difficult time.
With love,
Lisa, Nick, and Heidi Yulico

Dear boys,
So sad to hear of moms passing. She was a great neighbor always willing to listen without judgement, and her great smile. I used to crack up watching Moses taking her for walks. She is with dad and my parents now and i am sure they are having a few laughs. My thougts and prayers are with you,
Love Joan Krawec

I will always remember the love, kindness, and positivity of my Aunt Joanie ❤️. She was a bright light among us and the world feels dimmer without her. Her love will live on in all of her precious boys. It gives me comfort to know she is dancing with my Uncle Bruce again. Xoxoxox, Kim

My name is Nella Carravetta and I have met Joan in the halls of Huntington High in 1995. We were first colleagues , but soon became friends. We found a connection which remained strong throughout the years. Joan was one of the sweetest and most gentle soul I have ever met. She supported me when I went through rough patches, always invited me to her home and made me feel part of it.. We both shared the love of travel, (an unforgettable trip to Portland, Oregon) music (the guitar man in central park ) the city, the botanical gardens, and mostly our long chats. We made it a point to see each other often and our visit always included an outing we both enjoyed.
I will miss my dear friend, and my sincerest condolences go out to Rob and Sara, Chris and Shannon and the extended family.
Rest in peace Joan, I will always have you in my heart.

Joan and I shared so many good times together: Classes, lunches, dinners, and vacations. She was a special friend and sister in law. Joan was the most positive person I will ever know; Every conversation was filled only with positive words. Even battling her cancer, she remained positive and never complained. My heart aches knowing I will never see her again. She will be missed by all of us.
♥️ Linda

Timothy Sweeney posted a condolence

My name is Timmy Sweeney, Joan’s grand nephew. I have nothing but good words to say in remembrance of her. She was the sweetest and kindest person anyone could ever be blessed to meet. She always thought about other people, and, even in times of struggle, committed to good works to help others. She was also a fighter, a woman of great resilience who never gave up and knew what she wanted. She was tough, but not mean, always the definition of tenderhearted. A woman like that will live on not just in memory by the bountiful amounts of people who love her, but also in spirit.

Our sister Joan Marie, her smile and her spirit, will be missed by all. From growing up in Westbury with our dad's Knipfing family, and in Freeport with our mom’s family, to her life in Huntington with her husband and sons and grandsons, she embraced it all with energy, enthusiasm, and joy. Compassionate, loving, intelligent, curious, funny (and that laugh). She touched the lives of countless people - relatives, close friends, students and many others. In later years her resilience and strength in the face of great challenge and illness was unmatched, her positive attitude and great faith an inspiration. A true force of nature, always smiling. Irreplaceable. We love and miss her, but take comfort in knowing her beautiful spirit lives on.
Rest in peace Joanie.
Kathy & Bruce, and Mike
