I first met my friend Ken in P.S 81 , in the 4th grade, and discovered we had similar likes and dislikes.
After school Ken was telling me that he wanted to join the Boy Scouts and I explained that I had joined the Maspeth Nautical Cadets a week before. I felt so bad that we were joining different organizations and not sharing the new adventures together
However, we found a similar interest in lifting weights in his basement on Green Ave., Ridgewood N.Y.. We were interested in developing our muscles for future challenges. We had a routine each week and stuck to a schedule. We would often look at body builder magazines to emulate their flex positions and display different muscle groups. Not many years later we were seeing results from our sweat and efforts ( we were proud of ourselves.
I would brag to my older brother ( 8yrs older) and he said we should add push ups and sit ups to our routine ( it was then we started using baby oil on our muscles to enhance our muscles in pictures) .
We entered a contest for our age group sending in our best pictures) with hopes of winning a prize.
Fast forward several years Ken signed up for an ROTC program and was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy and was assigned to a Naval Supply Depot off the tip of Alaska., and he married Helga. Oh yes I sold him my 1965 Mustang to make the journey. I followed in his foot steps by being accepted into the US ARMY SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING and commissioned in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant . Honor Duty Courage & Country helped us to enjoy our life’s journeys for the next 70 years. Our LORD in early JUly of 2023 asked him to serve as an angel in heaven. That’s a proud and admirable legacy by all standards on this earth
