Obituary of Barbara Kos-Munson

Kos-Munson, Barbara A., 90, of Northport, passed away on October 28, 2022. A longtime Psycho-Therapist serving her community for over 30 years. Beloved wife of the late Stanley Kos and Philip Munson. Loving mother of Debbie Harmon (Dennis), Cathy Margolin (Fred) Jim Kos (Christine) and step-mother of Mary Patricia, Christine, Michael and James (Tracy) Munson. Cherished grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of 9. Visitation Tuesday, November 1^st from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Funeral service to be held 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to: VNS Hospice of Suffolk, 505 Main St., Northport, NY 11768 in Barbara’s name would be greatly appreciated.

Dr. Barbara Kos-Munson, PhD, RN, was an Associate Dean of the School of Nursing and Doctoral Program Director at Adelphi Universty, Past President of the American Heart Association, Nassau Chapter and book reviewer for Prentice-Hall Publishers. She received a B.S. and M.S. in Nursing from Adelphi University and a PhD in Educational Psychology from Hofstra University. Dr. Kos-Munson was the recipient of a New York State Heart Association Research Grant to study  psychosocial factors influincing rehabilitation from coronary artery bypass surgery. This problem was very significant since statistics indicatated that between 45 and 78 percent of individuals whose surgeries were successful, never returned to work or to optimal functioning. This was also the first non-medical, non-biochemical study funded by the American Heart Association. In addition to her various teaching and research activities, Dr. Kos-Munson had completed her Post-Doctoral studies in the Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University, preparing her as a Psycho-Analyst and a Psycho-Therapist. She has had an active Private Practice for over 30 years.
