Sal, my cousin and my father’s nephew, had a big heart and a huge life. I am sure he is in the middle of a party, probably hosting it, with all our relatives and his endless supply of friends. Lots of pasta, dancing and laughter. My sincere condolences to Arlene, their children and Joanne. xxx

My cousin Sal was more like a brother to me.
• He took me to my first bar, my first nightclub, my first comedy show.
• He was the only one in our family that had the courage, to take me away from my mother.
• Memories of the green room when he appeared on Johnny Carson.
• The party on Long Island at their home, he pushed joe Torre in their pool (while he still had his cigar in his mouth), but Joe can't swim! He jumped into to save him.
• He attended all my weddings which is no small fete.
• He had broad shoulders and a heart to match. Men like that don’t exist anymore.
• With all his pain, he managed to attend my son Anthony’s wedding.
• There’s was no body like him.
• Devastated...a loss to so many. I will never ever forget him.
To my cousin Arlene and their magnificent children and grandchildren, an abundance of love and heartfelt sympathy.
We lost one of the best of the best.
Cousin Angela

I think I was 10 years old and mr cirella was going to be on the Johnny Carson show. We all stayed up late to watch. The next day I called the house too early as I often did, and woke him up and he was so pissed off at me ..I was always so fond of him. Mr cirella was a good man and may his memory be a blessing to your family—richard sands

One afternoon in August 1998, shortly after Sue and I moved to Melville, we were sitting in our backyard with our family, and our neighbor, who we hadn’t yet met, looks over the fence and introduces himself. After a few minutes we said our goodbyes, and we were ready to fire up the BBQ.
Well… about a ½ hour later a man in what looked like a waiter’s outfit shows up in our back yard with several trays of what looked like catered food. I immediately jumped up to inform the gentleman that he had come to the wrong house, and we hadn’t ordered any food.
Now, I had been to Cirella’s several times, but never made the connection when we met Sal just ½ hour before. The waiter explained the food, we all ate way too much, and Sue and I smiled knowing we would enjoy many years with our new neighbors.
That is only one story of many wonderful times we shared with Sal, Arlene, and the entire Cirella family.
At least my departed friends and family are now enjoying a huge helping of Cirella Salad, and the famous absurdly large Veal Parmesan that no one person has ever finished in a single sitting!
We will really miss you Sal.

Sal and Arlene adopted me as part of their extended family when I was a teacher in West Hollow and tutored Tracy and Todd. I always felt they had a deep love for their children but it didn’t stop there. Anyone who walked into 56 East Mall or their restaurants was treated with respect.
Then we started going to their restaurants and it was really love. Their warmth and company always made the meal exceptional.
Now, Todd and Michelle and his family are our best friends. I am so thankful.
