Obituary of George J. Mayer

A lifetime resident of Huntington, George was born and lived on Birchwood Dr his entire life. He was a Navy and Army veteran who married his high school sweetheart, Barbara. They have spent 62 years together surrounded by their 4 children, Michael & Michelle Mayer, Dianna & Mike Bennett, George & Patricia Mayer and Ken & Diana Mayer and 9 grandchildren, Kevin, Kate, Melissa, Greg, Michael, Courtney, Kyle, Caroline and Melanie. The things in his life that gave him the most pleasure were spending time with his family, traveling the world with his wife Barbara, hunting, archery, model airplanes and riding his motorcycle with family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father and Poppy! He made friends where ever he went with his smile and his genuine interest in the lives of each person he met. He always made you feel like part of the family. His warm hugs and kind, gentle soul are just a few things that will leave a lasting impression on all of the lives he touched throughout his life. In Lieu of flowers donations made to: St Jude’s or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s in George's name would be greatly appreciated by the family.
