David McDermott, Dave to those who knew him best, was born September 10th, 1935, in Flushing, Queens. He was born in the wake of the depression to Vincent T. and Mary E. McDermott. He attended La Salle Academy High School in New York City where he excelled in academics and athletics. Dave then went on to join Union College’s class of 1957. He was an incredible athlete, recruited to play basketball and football for Union College.
He had an undeniable work ethic on and off the field. He took great pride in his work in textiles throughout his life, working for Springs, Chicopee, American Pacific, And finally David McDermott Consulting.
Most of all, Dave cherished his family and loved ones. He was a friend to all that knew him. A man with humor at the forefront of his personality. When someone needed a laugh, a word of encouragement, sound and honest advice, Dave was always there.
Dave was a prolific reader, enjoying nothing more than a great book, a strong cup of coffee, and a view of the ocean.
He was charming and lit up a room with his piercing blue eyes. He was devoted to his family and his friends, appreciating conversation and was an extremely gifted listener. His quick wit and humor had a way of making all feel at ease in his presence.
Dave is survived by his four children, their spouses, six grandchildren and a great grand daughter.
