Hal Murphy, aged 89, passed away on October 27, 2019 in Lancaster CA. Hal was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Claire H Murphy and his infant daughter, Deborah. He is survived by six devoted children, Cathleen Matanle (Richard), Maureen

Frederick (Donald), Carolyn Patriarco (Michael), Anne Marie Mullins, Patrice Monks and David

(Naira). Hal was the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren, Elizabeth Spellman (Kevin)

Natalie Dennen (Thomas), Molly Nieves (Brandon), Cassandra Styons (Jason), Lynn Browne

(Brandon), Jeremy Patriarco, Rebecca Monks, Olivia Henao (Todd), Thomas Monks, James Matanle, Vincent Patriarco, Charles Murphy and his baby sister due in Dec, and seven great grandchildren, Claire and Jack Nieves, Graham and Maisie Dennen, William and Paige Spellman, and Wesley Styons.


Hal was a graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a Captain in the US Air Force, serving at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton OH during the Korean War. He had a long career in mechanical and computer engineering at Sperry Rand Corporation in Lake Success NY and the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in NYC.

 

Hal and Claire raised their family in North Bellmore NY and later in Summit NJ. He was a religious education teacher at St Barnabas parish in Bellmore and a volunteer at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He enjoyed woodworking, computer programming, military history and music. He also enjoyed his later years as Big Poppa with his son and family in Palmdale CA.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of M.A. Connell Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday 7-9 PM in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be offered at 9:45 AM at St. Patrick’s Church. Burial will follow at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale NY. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite charity.
