Obituary of Catherine Jean Straub

Catherine Jean Straub, 53, of Huntington, New York, died August 10, 2018 in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Cathy passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family. After an over eight year battle with cancer, the fight became too much to bear. Thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, and caregivers that supported our family throughout this journey. 

Born in Whitestone, New York, Cathy lived in Huntington for most of her life, attended Huntington High School and worked at Huntington Hospital before moving to Florida.

Cathy is the daughter of Bonnie Filshie (the late John Filshie and fiancé Emil Mayer). Survived by her children Matthew Straub, Brian Straub (fiancée Samantha MacCurdy), Joseph Straub, and Jessica Straub. Also survived by her sister Maria Filshie Douglas (David Douglas) nieces Carter and Jennifer Douglas and sister Patti Filshie Hoffmann (Andy Hoffmann) nephews AJ and Ian Hoffmann.

From her daughter:

“She taught the four of us to love wholeheartedly, to be independent (and maybe reluctantly ask for help when we need it), and to protect the people you care about. We count ourselves lucky to have learned these and many other life lessons from the greatest mother, sister, daughter, and friend we could have asked for. Cancer took her from us too soon.”
