I was so sorry to hear about the death of Debbie. It’s been many years since I’ve even spoken to her however, I have fond memories of working with her at the golden goose daycare in Coldspring Harbor. Out of all the three owners she was really the most sincere, professional most hard-working one there. She treated me with respect, and gave me a lot of confidence working with small children that I needed at the time being a young college student. Always kind and sweet! Rest in peace dear Debbie!

Anybody can be a boss, but few become leaders. Debbie Keller was in the category of the few. The EEC profession has been changing over the years and not for the better. Through all of the changes, Debbie never compromised her integrity and identity as a human being. Her commitment to educators, children, and parents cannot be surpassed. Debbie always led by example and never asked an employee to do something she wouldn’t do herself. God blessed me two times, West Hills and Cold Spring Harbor Labs. I will never forget the positive ambience Debbie created within these two schools. She truly made the world a better place. I admired her authenticity, ethics, and compassionate heart.
Debbie, I remember when you interviewed me and gave me a Snapple Ice Tea. I was an hour late, due to not being able to find the building. You still gave me a shot and made me feel at ease. This was a very kind thing to do, considering you did not even know me at the time. Never forgetting your taste in sandwiches though! Boloney sandwiches with mayonnaise and mustard! It actually was not too bad when you had me try. Thank you for those memories. I also want to thank you for showing up to my college graduation. It really meant the world to me to see you there. And for the advice throughout the years. I appreciated the way you listened and then advised me.
Your passing has upset me, but at least there are the many memories. My memories of working for you will always be cherished. Thank you for everything!

Dearest Rich,
Deb will always remain in my heart as the most loving, compassionate and faithful big sister. She was always willing to lend a hand to help or lend an ear to listen. Her unending smile never wavered. She was always upbeat and cheerful. I know she has been welcomed with open arms into heaven by Judy, their mom Ev, Aunt Ellie, and her Dad. I will always remember the Hilliger family with great love in my heart. Prayers sent your way to you and your loved ones.
Love, Mary
