Obituary of Robert O. Donnelly

Robert O. Donnelly, 88, of East Northport, New York, on December 24, 2017.  Beloved husband of 62 years of Teresa.  Loving father of Mary Ellen Donnelly (Mark Elmendorf) and Jean (Michael) Treacy.  Cherished grandfather of Kyle, Kyra, Shannon, Brendan, Erin, Keefe and Miranda.  Survived by his brothers Eugene (Arlene) and Martin (Regina).  While attending Bishop Loughlin High School, Mr. Donnelly won the Golden Gloves Ring Crown in 1947 at the age of 17.  Mr. Donnelly graduated from Fordham University in 1951.  At the age of 22, he served in the United States Army as First Lieutenant of the 396^th Transportation Truck Company in Korea.  Upon his return from Korea, Mr. Donnelly served as a police officer for the NYPD.  In 1954, Mr. Donnelly met his beloved Teresa at the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  They were married on September 10, 1955.  Mr. Donnelly attended and graduated from Fordham Law School in 1956.  From 1958 until 1961, Mr. Donnelly was an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office.  He then went on to be Vice President and first General Counsel for American District Telegraph, Co., a position in which he served until his retirement in 1988.  Mr. Donnelly then returned to public service, serving in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.  He was a member of the Huntington Country Club for 48 years.  Visitation Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave, Huntington Station. Funeral Mass Friday at 10:45 AM at St. Patrick's Church, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
