Obituary of Robert J. Sullivan

Death Notice New York Times SULLIVAN--Robert J., age 86, of Cold Spring Harbor, NY, passed away peacefully May 8, 2016. Married to his beloved late wife Joan for 60 years, he is survived by daughter Kathleen and her partner Helen; son Robert and his wife Kandy, and son James and his wife Sara and their children Kira, Daniel and Sean. Born to Joseph and Kathleen (O'Connor) Sullivan in New York on May 7, 1930, he attended Bishop Loughlin High School and Queens College, graduating in 1957 after serving his country in the United States Air Force, where he rose to First Lieutenant. Magnetically handsome, intellectually gifted, and possessed of a sparkling wit, he also was exceptionally kind and generous, with a fierce love for and pride in his family. After obtaining a CPA, he worked at Price Waterhouse before going on to hold executive positions at American Express, Bush Universal, Warner Amex Cable and Cablevision. He joined the Board of LaborReady shortly after its founding in 1989, and served a long and successful tenure as Chairman of the Board, taking the company (now called TrueBlue) onto the NYSE and retiring only at age 81. An exceptional athlete, he won numerous golf trophies in his 37 years at the Huntington Country Club. His family is deeply grateful for the gift of his full and wonderful life.
