I just today accidentally found out that Herb has died. The piece by his son is a masterpiece of words and love. I am so grateful that the older brother of my high school best friend, Anne Archer Corona, had in his life such an incredible son. To me Herb was a big brother figure and wickedly funny. And scary smart. A replica of a kidney he had constructed for a school project hung on a wall in his childhood home in Huntington by his proud proud parents. He was a great guy. My condolences to his family.

dr archer was my dr from the mid seventies (where dr jim macmahon of mercy hosp.
introduced us to when dr archer stopped practicing)
the offfice visits were always filled with fish stories and photography
and he used to tell me about his son doing research in telemeres and telemarase
he was so proud.. and we both shared a vision of medicine of the future
i will never find another dr as compassionate and understanding of ills as dr archer was.
one of a kind

It is so sad to hear of your dad's death. I was a long-time patient of your dad and I must say, the only time I was disappointed in our relationship was a few years ago when I was told I needed to find a new doctor as he was retiring. My daughter, who is about your age, was fortunate to "hookup" with your dad when she became an adult. Through her I became his patient and I recommended both my mother-in-law and sister-in-law to see him.
I could tell you all the wonderful feelings and experiences we had with your dad, but your eulogy really tells the story so well. I can only thank God for my brief relationship with him. He was a wonderful man and an extraordinary Doctor.
God bless you all -
Bill Stephan

He was the greatest , most caring doctor I've ever dealt with. His reputation was astounding , admired and respected by all the other doctors I ever saw. He was a great man and I do not know many great men. My brother Jamie recommended him and I never looked back. I'm so sorry for your loss , mostly because I always thought he was a great guy as well as a a great doctor and man. Brian Atkinson

My sympathies for your loss. In 1992 my good friend Frank Alagia suggested I go see 'Archer" . I went for my physical and learned that Dr Archer was not your usual type Doctor. As I was doing my stress test and chest xrays and blood work.. I was wondering what I had gotten into.. he really wasn't kidding around about turning over all the rocks... within one year I had suggested to my wife, brothers and friends...go see Archer. Your Dad was such an incredible man and Doctor. When he discontinued his practice a few years ago, we were lost...then he valiantly tried to practice again.. I immediately made the trip to see him..he inspired complete loyalty by his complete loyalty to his patients.. in your eulogy you said it best when you said ,"the time of giants"..Dr Archer was a giant and he is missed. God Bless the whole family...Jamie Atkinson

I smiled quite a bit as I read your tribute to your Dad. Smiled because I had heard some of those same stories from him. He was my doctor for many years. He listened to my complaints and I listened to his stories. Where would you ever find a doctor like that today? He was not only a cautious, careful and thorough medical man but a kind, compassionate human - who spoke often of his own family and held my hand when I told him of my young sister's death from cancer.
I offer you my prayers and sympathy. We are all the lesser for his passing. May the Good Lord rest his beautiful soul.

I'm so sorry for the great loss of your dear Herbert. Words cannot express the pain we feel when we lose those we love. Please take comfort in knowing that our creator, Jehovah God, has promised to end death forever and to reunite us with our loved ones (Rev. 21:4 and John 5: 28,29). Be comforted by the good memories and allow your family and friends to help you through this difficult time. Remember, it is impossible for God to lie (Heb. 6:18), what he has promised will happen soon.

Dr. Archer was a wonderful doctor. Dr. Kevin Cotterell and Dr. Reina Wharton referred him to me and I am grateful. My husband and I will certainly miss him. Our prayers are with the family.
