Obituary of Roland B. L'Hommedieu

Roland (Rollie) L'Hommedieu L'HOMMEDIEU - Roland (Rollie), 89, whose family was one of the first to settle Long Island in the 17th Century, passed away at his home in Cold Spring Harbor. A lifelong resident of Huntington, he graduated from Huntington High School in 1940 where he excelled in athletics and received the Malcolm Paul Hagen Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Athlete. Two years later, he married his high school sweetheart, Bernadette Walsh (deceased). He was a Navy Veteran of WWII. Roland is survived by his four children; Kathleen Flanders of Charlottesville, VA; Gary L'Hommedieu of Fairfield, CT; Celeste Johnstone of Seminole, FL; Marc L'Hommedieu of Cold Spring Harbor, NY; eight (8) grandchildren; seven (7) great grandchildren, and his close friend, Ruth Fahlbusch of Huntington. He loved all sports. After playing football, basketball and baseball in high school, he played softball with the American Legion team. Later in life he took up and became an avid golfer He will be best remembered for his blue eyes and bright smile. Funeral arrangements are being handled by M.A. Connell Funeral Home with visiting hours set for Thursday, January 27th from 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon and 7:00 to 9:00PM in the evening. A Religious service will be at MA Connell's Friday, January 28th at 11:00AM with Rev Andy Hart of the Old First Church officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at the Huntington Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Huntington Human Services Institute, Inc. c/o Huntington Senior Center, 423 Park Avenue, Huntington, NY 11743. Link to Newsday Article
