Family and friends wishing to attend the burial on Wednesday may gather at the Funeral Home, 9 AM. The procession will be leaving at 9:30 to go to Calverton National Cemetery.
RICHARD LAWRENCE WASLEY(1940 - 2015)
WASLEY - Richard Lawrence 75, of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Huntington, NY, on May 20, 2015. Richard was born and raised in Glen Cove, NY. He honorably served in the US Army from 1958 1960. Soon after, Richard began his career as a proud Town of Huntington employee, retiring after 30 years. As a young adult, Richard was very active in sports and even played semi-pro baseball. He was an avid fisherman, a music enthusiast and a film buff. After retiring, he enjoyed volunteering as coach and umpire for South Nash High School in Rocky Mount, NC. Having moved to Raleigh in retirement, he began living at Independence Village in the last few years. He remained very active there, and enjoyed being the head of the welcome committee. Richard is survived by his son, Richard Wasley and Richard's mother, Dorothy Wasley; brother, Robert Wasley; nephews, James Walker (Sue) and Garry Walker (Jean); nieces, Patricia Seigh (Bill) and Cindy Hardin; and a special friend, Gillian Brown, and her daughter Ashley, and Ashley's two sons. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Maude Wasley; and sisters, Louise Walker, Beatrice Maio and Bernice Kennedy. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, with a funeral service taking place at 8pm, at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, NY. Interment will take place on Wednesday, May 27 at 10:30am at Calverton National Cemetery
