Charles M. WETTERER
WETTERER - Charles M., 89, Principal of Cold Spring Harbor Junior/Senior High School for thirteen years, passed away in Florida on April 24, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Kelly (Peggy) & their three children: Katherine W. Eason, Esq., Dr. James K. Wetterer and Dr. Charles J. Wetterer. He also leaves three sisters: Kay Weiss, Lynn Laine, and Barbara Langabeer, and nine beloved grandchildren: Margaret, Carl Edward, Katherine, Anna, Mary, Luke, Sarah, John and Benjamin. Dr. Wetterer was a long time resident of Huntington. He came here 47 years ago as Principal. He was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Church where a Funeral Mass was offered for him by his cousin, Msgr. Edward Wetterer. He was an active member of Rotary International for over 50 years and served terms as Huntington Rotary President and as District Governor. During World War II, he flew a B29 and retired from the Air force Reserves after almost 30 years of service. Hewas a member of Aviator's Post 743 of the American Legion and for many years acted as its Judge Advocate and for a short time as Post Commander. Dr. Wetterer received a BA from Adelphi University, a JD from Fordham Law School and and EdD from NYU. After retiring from Cold Spring Harbor Jr/Sr High in 1980, Dr. Wetterer, in addition to his private law practice, worked as General Counsel for Section VIII of the N.Y. State Public High School Athletic Association. He was an Adjunct Professor of Education Law at Hofstra University. He was, in turn, a School Hearing Officer, Small Claims Court Judge, and an Administrative Law Judge in the Mineola Courts. He also authored several books for young adults. Charles Wetterer will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving parent, talented teacher and true friend.
