Anthony (We called him Tony, then) and I were Manhasset High School Class of 1956 classmates. His grasp of mathematics and practical skills were both apparent even in those early years. I once asked Tony to explain just how two three dimensional shapes could have the same area but different volumes. Tony immediately replied, "think of filling a paper cup with water and then squeezing the cup. Result: a wet hand." Typical Tony. A remarkable man and a most valued friend.

Tony and I have been close friends since we met as MIT freshmen in 1956. First we were pledges and then brothers in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and we both majored in Aeronautics and Astronautics (MIT's Course XVI). Our social lives were intertwined by the fraternity, our academic lives were melded by studying for problem sets and exams, and our careers followed parallel paths in aerospace engineering. Tony was a groomsman at Pegi's and my wedding over 52 years ago. Tony and I stayed in frequent e-mail contact, and we last saw each other 2 months ago. Godspeed, Tony.
Here are e-mails that I have received from fellow Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity brothers.
Claron Anderson: Tony was the brother who picked me up at the airport at 2:30 am at the start of Rush Week and he was my big brother. I would have liked to see him but New York and California are a long way away. He and Bill Leffler were the primary reason I was so quick to pledge Lambda Chi.
Si Allen: I believe my brief encounter with Tony at the 50th (reunion of the Class of 1960) was the first since graduation. How little we change over the years and so it seemed with Tony at that occasion. I am glad I had that chance.
Dick Burse: Tony did a lot for the House (in all the meanings of the word). He is one of the guys who really will be missed.
Calvin Swift: I remember when Jo (Cal's wife to be) took the train from Maine back to Simmons, she missed her stop, had to take the next one, and was then stranded. A policeman "offered a ride", but Jo said no thanks, and called Lambda Chi. Good old Tony answered the phone, and brought her safely back to the dorm. What a great guy!

I loved Tony's active mind and that he took action for his causes. He was a good man who will be very much missed by his friends and of course, his
family. I wish them to hold tight to all the good memories he provided. God bless.

Tony was the only brother to trust with making a North End restaurant reservation, and a canny real estate negotiation to boot.

I really never got to know Tony very well during our MIT days. And our career paths parted after MIT. However, while there, Tony's jocular presence aways lighted up the fraternity house. My thoughts are with his family as the morn his passing.

Charles - you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Hoping you can find love and strength and comfort in those around you who care for you and share your loss. There is really so little that can be said, but these two truths: this is terrible, and you are loved.

My bond with Tony goes back to our Fraternity days 58 years ago. Friendships were made then that lasted a life time; Tony came to my 75th birthday party only two months ago - a true friend. We will all miss him.

A dear friend and fellow patriot. Thank you for all the times you stood right by our sides. The Republican headquarters will not be the same. You will be missed so much more than you will ever know. My thoughts, prayers and love to the family. May God hold you forever in His arms and give you peace. May you rest in His ever loving arms.
